What Is Event Liability Insurance? What You Need to Know

​What is event liability insurance? And why do I need it for my wedding? These are some of the most common questions we receive from couples. We’re taking today on the blog as an opportunity to answer all your wedding event liability insurance questions.

What is Event Liability Insurance?
First things first, what even is event liability insurance? Liability insurance protects you financially from bearing responsibility for any accidents or injuries that might occur during your wedding, including alcohol-related incidents.

Why Do I Need It?
The main reason why you need this type of wedding insurance is alcohol. As fun as it is to have alcohol at a wedding, it also is the cause behind a large number of wedding incidents. For instance, if a guest has too much to drink at their friend’s wedding and trips and breaks their leg as a result, the hosts might be liable for the accident as the providers of the alcohol.

At Four Oaks Manor, couples are responsible for providing their own alcohol for their weddings. Because of that, we require couples serving alcohol to obtain this insurance to cover themselves. If you’re getting married elsewhere, check with your venue about their insurance policy to see if you need the insurance or not.

How Much Coverage Do I Need?
Check with your venue and insurance providers on what they recommend. General event liability insurance typically covers up to $1,000,000 in accidents, which is normally sufficient for a standard wedding.

How Much Does It Cost?
On average, one-day event liability insurance costs between $150 and $200.

How Do I Get It?
There are many ways to obtain general event liability insurance. Often, the simplest way is to check with your current insurance providers to see what options they provide.
