Four Oaks Manor has had the privilege of working with DJ Aaron Elya for several years now and we recently had the opportunity to interview him and get a first-hand look at a DJ’s perspective in the North Georgia wedding region. We were able to find out a little bit more about his experience, passion, and advice for couples looking for a wedding DJ. DJ Aaron with Disc Jockey Etc. had DJ’d his first wedding in 2005, but has been playing music for people one way or another since he was a freshman in high school. He realized this was his passion when he helped DJ a mixer at the end of band camp freshman year. “The fact that I was putting together a group of songs and people were dancing to them was an incredible feeling,” Aaron states. “Not unlike when a stand-up comedian gets a laugh, or when a teacher sees a student apply a new piece of knowledge. There’s a sort of rush that comes when people are dancing to the songs you’ve chosen. It’s like you’re taking them on a musical journey, and that rush is something I still get to this day.” That rush has been with him for 172 weddings over the course of 13 years. DJ Aaron was very involved in and enjoyed the planning of his own wedding in 2002. Although he wasn’t a DJ at that time, he often reflects on the planning of his own wedding in order to help carry out the visions that his couples have. Aaron always takes the time to get to know his clients and by the time the wedding rolls around he knows exactly what his couples like and what they don’t like. After 13 years of being in this business, he believes that the face to face meetings are what have made all of his weddings so successful. DJ Aaron's favorite part about weddings are when the bride and groom share their first dance, or when the bride or groom share a special dance with their mother or father. Aaron says, “Having the opportunity to not only witness that moment, but help them create it is extremely humbling. A mentor of mine once told me that a bad DJ can ruin an entire weekend, and that’s always weighed heavily on me. That’s why it is very important to me to help deliver those moments to my clients exactly as they envisioned because I know exactly how important it is for them. There is nothing more humbling that that.” He absolutely loves what he does. “Getting to be a part of so many special days is a true blessing,” Aaron states. His advice for couples looking for a DJ is to ask a multitude of questions to ensure that he/she will be the right fit. Things like “What does your price include?”, “How long have you been DJ’ing weddings?”, or, if you’re looking into a company with a stable of DJ’s on staff, you could ask “Will YOU be the DJ for our wedding, or will you contract someone to be there?” These are questions to help you get to know the person or company you’re hiring. It’s also VERY important to ask about “back-up plans”: “Do you carry DJ insurance?”, “What would happen if one of your speakers fails during our reception?” or “What’s your plan if you get hit by a bus on the morning of our wedding?” Cost is important, but to know you have a TRUE professional who cares about his clients, you need to know that you WILL have music at your wedding no matter what. DJ Aaron genuinely cares about you as a person and works hard to make sure your day runs smoothly. Check out DJ Aaron’s website for more information on what he has to offer.
