One of our beloved vendors that we have been working with for many years is Laurens Floral Art. Their relationship with Four Oaks Manor began with the friendship built with our owner Randy West. Before Four Oaks Manor became a wedding venue, Randy had discussed his ideas with Karen and Laurens, Laurens Floral Art owners. They talked about how they could benefit from each other within the business realm and their relationship (friendship and business) has continued to this day.
Laurens Floral Art has been designing florals for weddings and events since 1966. Before Laurens became a florist, he taught art on the collegiate level which he says, “was just an extension of the creative process in its natural form.” Karen and Laurens realized their true passion was and is to provide beautiful flowers and floral designs to brides for their wedding day. Each year they design about 200-250 weddings and events.
When asked what advice do they have for couples looking for a florist, they said, “Look for the quality and artistry in their work. Ask to see pictures of the work they have done. Look for artistry in the craftsmanship, reputation, and dependability.”
Finally, when asked what advice do they have for couples when choosing which florals they would like to use, they stated, “At one time there was a term “seasonal flowers” that was used to describe flowers that were available during a certain time of the year. That term was valid until around 1995. Since that time almost every flower known is being cultivated in the northern and southern hemisphere or in Holland(Europe), the Middle East or Southeast Asia and with daily flights from every corner of the globe you can get just about any flower you desire at any time of the year. There are some exceptions, but very few. So we often say to our Brides to go with their wishes, if it is out of their projected budget we will make suggestions that are easily substituted.”
Deciding on a florist and which florals to use is not always an easy task. We hope this article shed some light on how to best decide which florist will suite you. If you have any questions for Karen and Laurens please comment below.
